The fashion industry is finally receiving its much-needed makeover. The changing attitudes and outlook of the customers further push this change. Even though the change began before the pandemic hit, it picked up pace in 2020.
1. Sustainability -
Fashion is the second-largest contributor to environmental damage and waste. But today, we see it changing and adapting sustainable practices. The industry now is not driven by the designers but instead the customer preferences. Consumers are aware of ill practices and demand eco-friendly products. They trust only those brands that can fulfill these demands, therefore driving the change. A rise in thrifting and buying of second-hand items has also been seen, which is sustainable.
2. Digital -
With the whole world going online, fashion also had to adjust to the norms, creating a digital world. Due to the Covid-19 restrictions, brands are shifting towards online retailing, which consumers also prefer. Despite the retailing, virtual reality such as virtual stylists, trial options, size guides will also make the experience convenient. Fashion weeks and shows will also shift to an online platform and be showcased virtually.
3. Simple Clothing -
The coronavirus lockdowns have made people work from home for more than a year. This led to them opting for comfortable clothing to relax and lounge in. In turn, brands created simplified garments in a comparatively lesser quantity.
Eco-friendly slow fashion is also now found replacing the fast fashion trend. The number of collections done per year have been down to two. This also helps in reducing waste and saving money.
I can conclude by saying that the fashion industry is constantly evolving, and despite these changes, it still has a long way to go
