I am sure, as everyone now knows, I aspire to be a stylist and am working towards achieving that every second of every day. I have spent the past year learning, improvising, and developing to get a step closer to my goal.
In recent times, with graduation nearing, I spent a significant amount of time on LinkedIn and Instagram looking for internships and jobs to gain the needed experience. This was when a friend recommended me for an assistant stylist internship. The internship required me to assist a stylist in her shoots. The first shoot was for a commercial TVC for a smartphone brand. I connected with the stylist, Priya, and got to work. Luckily for me, my first shoot only involved guys who seemed comparatively easier to prepare for.
Once the script was shared, we had to decide the looks for each change depending on the scene and find references for the same at brands like Zara, H&M, and Westside. The reference images were segregated as per each look and added on a presentation before sending for the final selection. Once the outfit was selected, we had to source that particular look from the same brand and purchase it.
Artist trials were then conducted, and changes were made as per their size and preferences. Once the final outfits were locked, I was responsible for keeping them ready and prepared for each actor on the shoot day. The shoot was two-day-long and had me on my toes. Despite being organized, last-minute changes got a little chaotic but were still manageable. I had to click images to remember the same outfit look for continuation shots and scenes.
Post the shoot, even though I was exhausted, it was worth socializing, creating contacts, learning, and most of all, gaining experience. I learned a lot and realized that I have a lot more to learn and a long way to go. That said, I am looking forward to more shoots, more tough scenarios, and more challenges.
