A fashionista like me has always obsessed and dreamed about attending fashion weeks, walking into Vogue headquarters, walking down the fashion street in extravagant clothes, and most of all visiting one of the fashion capitals. The ‘Big Four’ of the fashion world, including Paris, New York, London, and Milan, has always been a dream destination.
Globalization and competition are constantly increasing the number of new countries like Tokyo, Shanghai, Rome, Berlin, etc., up for a challenge with the big four. Among this vast list is my home country, India. Although India might be ranking far behind in the upcoming list, I am glad to see its name there.
India has the potential of becoming a fashion capital with its fast-growing fashion industry, a vast number of laborers, weavers, and artisans, and cheap costs. It is already a production hub for big fashion MNCs and, with its constant development, will soon be the hub for consumers as well.
Fashion in India, just like its culture, is diverse too. One can find everything from trendy western silhouettes and prints to traditional embroidered Indian garments to a mix of the best of both worlds. Due to social media growth, the reach of these Indian and Indo-western garments has extended all over the globe, recently spotted on Hollywood celebrities like John Legend, Chrissy Teigen, and Mindy Kailing.

Despite this, the number of Indian fashion students and universities is also increasing with every person studying either fashion designing or business. India also has its massive share of rich textiles, which will prove to make the best quality products at cheaper costs.
To conclude, I can proudly say that as an Indian fashion student, I hope to globalize Indian homegrown brands as well as be home to foreign brands. I might not have visited one of the fashion capitals, but I am glad to be staying in an upcoming one.
