In this fast-paced fashion world, trends are a go-to. Trendy clothes come and go within a month, and people are often chasing them. But some garments are staples. They defy the fashion cycle by never being out of fashion. Basics are termed basics as they are an essential part of styling. When in doubt, a stylist can always turn towards basic staples and know he can not go wrong with it. They can be mixed-matched or paired up with trendy garments to make a casual chic outfit.
One must wonder what these staples are. It might be expected for many, while some must be having a few different pieces. In this blog, I will explore the must-have basics in my wardrobe. Living in Mumbai, a heat-clad city, my outfits are not like the usual sweaters and coats but rather represent my style.
The wardrobe essentials one must own include -
1) White Shirt -
A classic yet simple white button-down shirt is something one can never go wrong with. Pair it up with bright trousers, basic denims, skirts, or layer it with jackets. It never disappoints. You can tuck it in, leave it out, pair it with boho accessories, and just as much achieve any look. It can give you a formal as well as a casual attire. It is comfortable to wear, and its multi-functionality is what makes it a must-have.
2) Blazer -
Another essential is a long-fitted blazer. It can amp up any outfit, team it up with a casual pair of shorts and tee, and it works its charm. A dark-colored blazer is suggested as it works with almost every color and provides a flattering silhouette. This staple also fits perfectly for casual looks when paired up with jeans, hoodies, and t-shirts. While for formal looks, one can team it up with body-con dresses, shirts, skirts and have just any look required.
3) Bell bottoms -
To those of you who are not aware, bell bottoms are boot-cut jeans. They were introduced in the 1960s and have been reinvented over the years to fit different styles. They look stunning for casual workdays when paired with blazers, denim jackets, bodysuits, and crop tops. They are comfortable and can serve a homely look when paired with sweatshirts and t-shirts. The pants also make the silhouette look neater and make one look taller. The different styles of bell-bottoms include flared, boot cut, hip huggers, and elephant bells.
4) Black dress -
Coco Chanel once stated, ‘One can never be overdressed or underdressed with a little black dress.’ This statement till today appears to be true to its origin. A black dress is an outfit that is functional for the daytime, evening, and nighttime, depending on the shoes and accessories it's paired up with. No wardrobe is complete without this essential. When confused, it is a convenient and glamorous option to opt for. Although it is vital for one to pick a chic black dress that fits perfectly no matter the length, the silhouette of the dress.
5) Denim Jacket -
When speaking of wardrobe essentials, how can one forget the evergreen denim jacket? Buy either a proper fit one or an oversized one, whatever comforts you. Perfect for casual occasions like lunch, brunch, shopping, etc., styled with basic tees or summer dresses. It is effortless and provides a significant level up to any outfit. There are a variety of colors and styles of denim jackets one can choose from, but the basic involves the classic blue denim-washed jacket.
6) White Sneakers -
Sneaker-head or not, basic white sneakers are a must-have in every wardrobe. Donned by celebs, influencers, socialites, they are spotted everywhere. Comfortable and reliable, they can be paired with every outfit and make even a formal outfit look casual. Different styles of white sneakers are available to choose from, highs, mids, lows with little colors here and there. One can choose according to their preference, but my personal choice includes the low white sneakers.
