Ever since I entered the fashion world, I lacked technical knowledge. I used basic Microsoft PowerPoint layouts for all of my presentations for almost a year, which most certainly was not appealing enough as a Fashion Marketer. Later, I was introduced to Canva, a graphic design platform that included users' templates. I did not get the hang of it at first, but now its become my strength. As I explored more, I felt that knowing how to illustrate could help in my future career as a stylist. So when I got my iPad, I jumped at the opportunity of learning procreate.
Procreate is a digital app for the iPad that works for all people, from beginners to advanced, to create detailed artwork. I had heard of this app earlier but was never really sure if I could grasp it. Despite that, I leaped and bought the app as well as the stylus needed. I started as a complete beginner and went through figuring it out myself. Fortunately, it wasn’t that tough. I watched YouTube tutorials, read articles, and made my notes.
Once I got the hang of the basics, every awake minute was spent playing around the app. It allows me to draw anywhere, anytime. I was fascinated with what all it could do. Every day, I tried copying some known images and illustrating them. I even used it to make sketches, technical drawings, and illustrations later incorporated into my portfolio and assignments.
I feel I am in a much better place now than when I started learning. Although, I still have a lot to explore on the app, which I intend to do this term break.
