With 2019 coming to an end, people were ecstatic to enter a new decade. Little did we know 2020 year had other plans for us.
For the past decades, it was envisioned to be a year with technology at its peak. Sci-fi movies showing 2020 as the futuristic year set predictions for flying cars, landing on Mars, invisible computers, and robots.
Even though we did not expect 2020 to have flying cars, we expected it to be like any other typical year with gradual up-gradation and development. But reality hit, covid took the entire world by storm. After almost a century, the world came to a standstill with imposed lockdowns, all business slumping, millions of people dying, colleges and schools being shut, unavailability of products, collapsing of medical facilities, etc. If someone had told me that 2020 would have been the year of a global pandemic, having to stay at home away from people, I would’ve laughed. But here we are, washing hands, wearing masks, social distancing, and sanitizing.
One can say 2020 has been the perfect irony of not only meeting the expectations but turning out in the exact opposite way. Indeed, the futuristic takedown of the world fits the criteria for the ‘expectations vs. reality’ meme trend.
